The Handbell Choir

The handbell choirs at Good Shepherd are comprised of both musicians and non-musicians.  Because the majority of the music we ring is color coded, we are able to provide people without a music background the opportunity to ring with us! We play a variety of music, including classical, traditional and contemporary pieces in support of the worship services at GSLC.

When scheduling permits, we also travel as a group to area locations and offer our music in venues such as nursing homes and shopping malls during the holidays. This is something we look forward to doing more of in the future – it blesses us and those who come to listen as we share our gifts with others.

Besides our three octaves of Schulmerich handbells, we also own three octaves of handchimes. Future plans for this ministry include adding a youth choir and eventually purchasing more octaves of handbells.

The mission of the GSLC Jubilee Ringers is to provide handbell music that supports and enhances congregational worship, that God might be glorified. Toward that end, we seek to provide adult members who can and cannot read music with an opportunity for Christian fellowship, growth, and service.

Our objectives are to:

  • Encourage and develop new ringers to join the corps of ringers
  • Conduct weekly rehearsals at the church
  • Play in the worship services and at special events as requested

Our goal is to become an excellent music ensemble. To that end, we will always encourage ourselves to take our music “to the next level,” meaning we will work toward learning more challenging and interesting music, incorporate other musical components such as vocalists and other instruments into our performances, and we will continue our education of handbell and handchime techniques through workshops and seminars. By committing to this, we will be a more effective music ensemble, and will have the opportunity to share our music in more venues, such as weddings and funerals, and outreach opportunities.
