New Member Classes

Everyone is always welcome at our worship services as a visitor or guest! Our Lord is a welcoming Savior, so we seek to make Good Shepherd an always welcoming community of people. We hope you will give us the opportunity to introduce ourselves and to share the ways in which being part of Good Shepherd's congregation has helped make us better disciples for Christ.

After attending Good Shepherd, you might decide to join our church family. Several times each year the pastor and other members host an informal information hour, which offers a very basic orientation to the life of Good Shepherd and during which you can ask questions.

Next, we schedule a three-session newcomers' class for anyone who wishes to find out about or be refreshed on the basics of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective. Participants learn how Lutherans are "grace-centered" in their understanding of the heart of God; how the Word of God is read, heard, and understood as "Law" and "Gospel" (God's expectations of us and actions for us in Jesus); and what it means to be a member of a church in which members are participants and not mere observers. During the newcomers' classes, participants are urged to raise questions, build relationships, and look forward to ongoing growth.

At Good Shepherd, we encourage all members to grow continually in faith and knowledge. Toward that end, a variety of Bible studies and topical studies are offered on Sunday mornings in sessions that last from 7 to 10 weeks. Additionally, some Bible studies and fellowship groups meet monthly or bi-weekly. These classes and groups all help us grow in discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ.

Good Shepherd's Christian education program offers programs for adults, youth, and children. Adult sessions vary in length  from the three-week newcomers' class to the two-year Crossways study of the entire Bible.
