YOUTH MINISTRY

Sr. High (9th-12th Grade)

All high school-age youth are eligible to participate in Overflow Sr. High Ministries (Good Shepherd’s High School Youth Group).  This ministry consists of:

Overflow— Overflow is a bi-monthly youth night that blends together four essential elements of a youth ministry program: fellowship, learning, outreach and worship. These nights consist of an ever-rotating and evolving mix of casual, come-as-you-are worship, relevant and affirming teaching, challenging small group discussion and study, and community through games, activities, and hang-out time. Overflow youth nights offer a laid-back, comfortable environment for students and their friends to connect and grow. Overflow meets in the Youth Room (121) on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00-8:30 PM.

Immerse— Immerse is our Sunday morning, large-group Bible Study. Immerse focuses on Scriptural, yet life-applicable topics that challenge youth to grow in their faith and understanding of Christianity. These topics/series cover a wide variety of relevant issues dealing with faith, life, and youth culture. Here students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in sound teaching and deepen their knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a Christ-follower in today’s world. Immerse meets in the Youth Room (121) Sunday from 9:30-10:30 AM.

Quench— Quench is a monthly experiential worship service designed specifically for Sr. High Youth. These experiences involve informal and casual prayer and praise with outlets for unique and creative expressions of faith. Quench is characterized by the use of multi-sensory worship elements such as music, art, meditation as well as prayer paths, lectio & vizio divina, and interactive worship experiences. This is not a church service, and therefore should not take the place of Sunday morning worship, however, it gives students an alternative way to express their devotion to God and quench their thirst for a meaningful relationship with Christ. Quench meets in the Day Chapel on the 4th Sunday of the month from 7:00-8:00 PM.

Monthly and Annual Events—Sr. High Youth are encouraged to take part in the many events (both social and service orientated) planned throughout the year.  These events include: the Winter Retreat & Ski Trip, 30 Hour Famine, the Summer Work Camp, the LCMS National Youth Gather (held every three years), and much more.

ADULT MINISTRY

The purpse of our Adult Ministry is provide opportunities for adult members and guests to become better acquainted with one another and to enjoy Christian fellowship and community, while supporting and encouraging one another in their Christian walk.

Good Shepherd offers a variety of small groups, each targeting a specific audience, that provide community, Biblical/topical study, and encouragement.  These groups meet in the homes of our members and offer a comfortable environment to grow in faith and fellowship.

On Sunday mornings, Good Shepherd holds five sessions of Adult Bible Studies.  Each session offers the choice of six to eight studies, so you are sure to find one that interests you.  These classes cover a wide variety of topics ranging from from Bible studies, church history, social issues, and family life.

If you would like to participate in any of the Adult Ministry offerings, please contact the church office at 703-437-5020.

Men's Ministry

The Men's Fellowship Group mission is to foster Christian brotherhood for the adult men of Good Shepherd. We hold regular meetings as well as special events. For over five years the primary platform to support this goal is the Fall/Winter Saturday morning breakfasts. Men of the congregation as well as guest speakers share their personal Christian faith experiences with the group. The men also contribute their time, energy, and imaginative cooking skills as chef-of-the-month. Our program would not be complete without the musical talents of members who provide the accompaniment for the hymn of each breakfast. In addition to the regular breakfasts, the Men's Fellowship hosts an annual St. Valentine's breakfast for Good Shepherd couples. This event continues to become very popular. The Men's Fellowship also sponsors activities for the entire congregation. Events this past year included a day trip to the historic Antienam National Battlefield Park. For the coming year, Men's Fellowship will continue to support its Saturday breakfasts. We already have several unique breakfasts planned, including special Hawaiian and Marine Corps themes.

Women's Ministry

The Women's Ministry is designed to develop opportunities for service and fellowship among the women of GSLC. We hold regular meetings as well as special events, including attendance at the Women of Faith conference, a retreat in the fall, and an Advent Tea.  Some examples of organizations we are involved with: The Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Women of Faith, International Lutheran Marriage Encounter.
